About us
We are Joris and Carola van Dijk and you are most welcome at “Het Dijkje Utrecht”
In 2020 we got the opportunity to make our dream come true, when we could buy this fantastic place from the municipality of Utrecht. However, the house, outbuilding and garden had a lot of overdue maintenance, a major renovation followed which we mainly did ourselves. We chose to install a heat pump so we could get rid of the gas and we installed 23 solar panels.
We converted the separate garage into two sustainable vacation homes. The basement with its own entrance we renovated into a meeting/workshop/yoga room with a cozy bar and kitchen.
We opened the doors of the vacation homes in August 2022 and started renting out the completely remodeled meeting space in the fall of 2022.
We feel truly privileged at this unique, green spot, next to the Maximapark and the Castellum and so close to the center of Utrecht. We would like to give our guests this feeling of this fine place. With our extensive experience in the hospitality industry, we hope to offer our guests an inspiring. personal and pleasant stay with good service in a beautiful, green and peaceful environment in Utrecht.
We look forward to welcome you and let you enjoy the many opportunities that Het Dijkje and the surroundings have to offer.

Bedroom is good to darken.
Warm welcome.
For those who want to get to the city quickly by bike but don’t want to sleep in the middle of the center, this really is a perfect location!
Quiet location, on a lively street with lots of cyclists.
No hassle with parking. Plenty of free parking spots close to the house.
The location feels rural yet very central to Utrecht center.
The owners are easily accessible or present in the yard. They are very friendly and helpful and cordial.
We really appreciated their tips on the local area and quick service.
We found the availability of multiple bikes at this cottage a big plus.
Price-quality ratio tiptop 👌.
We are considering booking this cottage again the next time we go to the Netherlands.
What a wonderful location and stay. We had the house Luna, very tastefully decorated and equipped with a fantastic box spring. Everything is brand new and fully equipped. Within 10 minutes you are with the free bike in the center. Also a big compliment to the hostess and host, nothing is too much for either of them. All in all a big 10, on to next time.
What a beautiful location for a quiet meeting! And also beautiful location for a walk between meetings!
What makes Het Dijkje so special?
The Dijkje is located on historic ground, because it is right on the Limes (Roman border) which in 2020 was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Next to the Dijkje is the beautiful Castellum Hoge woerd, a reconstruction of a Roman fort that sat on the exact location. The free archaeological museum houses the Meern 1, the most completely preserved Roman ship found in Europe. Also located in the Castellum are the city farm, theater and cafe-restaurant.
Across the street you will find the Maximapark, a lovely park for walking, cycling or rollerblading this park includes a Japanese garden, flower garden, draw ferry and restaurants. The park is large and is in the top 10 most beautiful parks in the world.
Within 15 minutes you cycle to the cozy center of Utrecht . Within walking distance are several nice restaurants with terraces and 150 meters away you will find Maximus a dynamic brewery with its own tasting room and sunny terrace.
Bikes can be used for free at Het Dijkje and a tour of the Maximapark is definitely worthwhile, as is a visit to Castle de Haar in Haarzuilens. In short, there is so much to do and see in this beautiful area. We will gladly tell you more about the area during your visit.
See you at the Dijkje.
